Working Title :: Leading in the Innovation Economy (Spring 2014, McGraw Hill)

From the Introduction:

“In his 1942 book, Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy, economist Joseph Schumpeter introduced the notion of an “innovation economy.” He argued that evolving institutions, entrepreneurs, and technological changes were at the heart of economic growth. But it is only in recent years that the innovation economy, grounded in Schumpeter’s ideas, has become mainstream. If you are reading this book, you are a part of the innovation economy. Know that within such fluidity lies opportunity for those who act with authenticity—and in alignment with an organization—to shape the world that we live in. While often inchoate, this mission of bringing one’s vision to world is in the center of every leader’s voyage, regardless of industry. The text you hold in your hands will help you articulate that realization process.

From Silicon Valley to Wall Street, the conference room to the emergency room, the developing world to the developed world, never has there been a greater need–and opportunity–for leaders of all types in all organizations, regardless of title. We are told to be the change we want to see in the world; here’s the step by step in making that change happen.”

The Power of Convergence Book Review

The Power of Convergence powerfully unpacks an “operational blueprint” for “categorizing, analyzing, rationalizing, and managing” the right technology to achieve business goals. Hoque’s writings echo the sentiments of and earlier analysis of the power of union of technology and business that was written in 2008 by Bill Gates. Gates reported similar comparisons in Business@The Speed of Thought: Using a Digital Nervous System. During the tech boom, Gates also produced detailed a blueprint for business managers who desire to provide creative innovation in business technology integration. Both authors strongly believe that effective and efficient technology management is strongly linked to sustainable business success and is positively correlated to superior economic performances.

The Power of Convergence shows readers how to synchronize innovative developments with business, presenting case studies of companies that have successfully integrated the two. Such “whole-brain enterprises,” as Hoque likes to call them, tend to continue expanding their reach and revenue growth, even in the most challenging markets and economic conditions.
